Exploring the Latest Rolex GMT-Master II-Guinness and Bruce Wayne Cerachrom Bezel
Each year, the Watches & Wonders exhibition is a grand celebration in the watchmaking community.
Before the official release of this year’s new GMT Master model, there was already a lot of online speculation about the series. One major reason is that the Rolex GMT Master model is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. Additionally, the new patent for red and black Cerachrom bezel technology announced earlier this year provided a solid basis for various rumors.
However, the much-anticipated red and black bezel did not arrive as expected. Instead, a new gray and black Cerachrom bezel made its debut, which is both innovative and intriguing.
Just minutes after photos appeared on social media, fans began calling the new gold-marked gray and black bezel version "Guinness." This nickname fits well with other beverage-themed GMT nicknames like "Pepsi," "Cola," "Root Beer," and others. For the platinum-marked black and gray bezel, fans have named this color combination "Bruce Wayne." I believe they are simply playing on the Batman theme, as the blue and black bezel version is widely known as "Batman" in the enthusiast community. I'm not sure what makes this combination particularly Bruce Wayne-like, but perhaps black and gray isn't a color combination worth special attention.
Visually, this is one of the subtlest "colored" watches Rolex has ever made. According to Rolex, this particularly subtle GMT-Master II watch indeed fills a gap in their product catalog. This watch is for those who don't want a black and white watch but feel that blue is too bold for them. Personally, while I appreciate the GMT-Master II 127610GRNR and consider it a finely crafted classic timepiece with impeccable workmanship, the color combination leaves me indifferent. This watch's positioning is very conservative, and the brand itself is already one of the most conservative in the industry.

For fans of vintage GMT-MASTER watches, the Root Beer bezel is also a popular choice. The brown and black "Root Beer" bezel is more vibrant. In direct light, the brown part of the bezel stands out, almost resembling honey. In darker conditions, the brown part looks softer, almost blending in with the black part of the bezel.
